Ann F asked how the place name 'Wayoh' arose. This is the site of a new Roman feature, identified on Lidar. It is shown in the link above, linking to the Roman Roads site. I used Eilert Ekwall's book 'Place names of Lancashire': Wayoh appears to mean 'the way or route on a heel of land'.
